MANILA, Philippines –National University punched a ticket to the quarterfinals following an emphatic 77-64 drubbing of St. Benilde in Group C Friday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
The Bulldogs survived a highly physical game with a balanced attack and punished the Blazers in the fourth quarter, leading as much as 19, 75-56, after back-to-back treys from Jeth Rosario and Gelo Alolino.
“It was one of our best offensive games and we really played better overall,” said coach Eric Altamirano after his Bulldogs wrapped up their stint with a 5-1 record.
Rosario and Glenn Khobuntin led NU with 14 points apiece.
Earlier, Letran pummeled the Philippine Under-18 Team, 93-63, to wrap up its campaign with a 3-3 record in Group B action at at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Fidel Castro set the tempo to finish with 16 points, while Ford Ruaya and Rey Nambatac combined for 25 markers for the Knights.
