MANILA, Philippines —San Miguel Beer rose from a huge hole to beat Globalport, 102-99, in the 2014 PBA Governors’ Cup Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Beermen erased a 17-point deficit behind a career night from sophomore giant June Mar Fajardo, who scored 26 points and corralled a personal-best 27 rebounds.
“I didn’t necessarily expect to play catchup but I expected it to be a very close game,” said SMB active consultant Todd Purves after his team improved to 4-2.
Reggie Williams flirted with a triple-double collecting 23 points, nine rebounds and nine assists while reigning MVP Arwind Santos added 18 points and 11 rebounds but missed two free throws with 8.8 ticks left that gave Batang Pier a chance to force overtime.
Former Barangay Ginebra import Dior Lowhorn had 38 points and 10 rebounds but his efforts still weren’t enough to pull Globalport, which lost a commanding lead for the second straight time in just a span of four nights after blowing a 20-point lead in a loss to San Mig Coffee last Friday.
“He was a handful for us tonight, no question,” Purves said of Lowhorn.
The Batang Pier fell to 1-4.
