RC Cola-AF bucks slow start, trips Cagayan gals

/ 03:44 AM June 05, 2014

RC Cola-Air Force made up for a slow start with a strong finish to repulse Cagayan Valley, 21-25, 25-14, 19-25, 25-19, 15-12, yesterday and take the solo leadership in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference women’s volleyball at Cuneta Astrodome.

Veteran Joy Cases unloaded five of her 22 points in the fifth set to spark the Raiders to their third straight victory in as many games and lift the franchise to new heights.

RC Cola-Army, which ended in the bottom of the standings the past conferences, has suddenly been the most dominating team in the league, posting wins without dropping a set.

Yesterday, however, the Rising Suns managed to strip their imposing veneer by dragging the reigning Philippine National Games champions into a five-setter.

“We had problem with our transition; it was slow in the first set,” said RC Cola-Air Force coach Clarence Esteban. “But at least we proved that we can challenge any team in a five-setter.”

In the second game, Generika Army shot down Cignal, 26-24, 25-11, 25-22, to register its first victory in three matches.

Cignal continued its spiral, dropping to a 0-3 card. With a report from Vinz Luanne Lamorena, Contributor
