Lascuña 7 shots off Queen’s Cup leader
SAMUI, Thailand—Antonio Lascuña fired a one-under-par 71 and lay seven strokes behind leader Poom Saksansin halfway through the $300,000 Queen’s Cup Bangkok Airways on Friday.
Poom, a 21-year-old Thai rookie carded a 67 for a 133, giving him a two-shot lead over South Korea’s Baek Seuk-hyun.
Lascuña shot a 69 in the opening round of the Asian Tour event.
Article continues after this advertisementAlso making the cut were Miguel Tabuena, who returned a 68 for 142, and Mars Pucay, who had another 73 for 146. Elmer Salvador (72-147) and Jay Bayron (77-148) failed to get under the wire.
“I missed a drive on my 11th hole (second hole) and had to take a penalty as my ball was in the long grass and ended up with a double bogey,” Lascuña said. “I couldn’t hit a shot there. Then made three more bogeys after that.
Poom, Thailand’s former amateur star, produced some breathtaking golf at the Santiburi Samui Country Club as he fired four birdies, including a 30-foot stunner on the third hole, to edge toward a surprise win. Asian Tour News
