MATCHES TUESDAY (Emperador Stadium)
5:15 p.m.—Socceroo vs Green Archers
8 p.m.—Stallion vs Loyola Meralco Sparks
MANILA, Philippines — Kaya kept its flickering title hopes alive with a thrilling 5-4 triumph over Socceroo Sunday night in the United Football League at Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
No stranger to scoring crucial goals, Chris Greatwich struck with a well-placed free kick in the 72nd minute as Kaya moved within seven points off Global.
But Kaya’s title hope is no longer in its hands as Global can wrap up the title with a win against Pachanga on Thursday.
A strong second round showing looked to have given Kaya the springboard to mount a title challenge late in the season.
But dropping points against Stallion and losing to Green Archers last week have left David Perkovic’s charges ruing their missed opportunity.
Meanwhile, Manila Jeepney secured the second spot in the top-tier next season after Air Force’s surprising 1-2 loss to Manila All-Japan in the second division.
Jeepney tallied 46 points, enough to join second division champion Ceres-La Salle in the top flight next season.
