AFP Cavaliers, MMDA Black Wolves keep UNTV Cup bid
MANILA, Philippines — AFP Cavaliers and MMDA Black Wolves bested Judiciary Magis and PNP Responders, respectively, in Sunday’s semifinals to remain in the title-hunt in the UNTV Cup Season 2 at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Alvin Idanan, Eugene Tan, Winston Sergio and Roland Pascual combined for 40 points as the Cavaliers erased the twice-to-beat advantage of the defending champion Magis with clutch triples and solid defense.
PJ Villanueva fired 25 points to anchor the Black Wolves’ 88-79 victory over Responders.
PNP went undefeated in eight games in the elimination round but the long layoff hurt the team’s fluid offense especially in the final period when the Black Wolves slowly pulled away.
The rubbermatches are set Sunday, with the winners forging a title showdown.
