Pacquiao world’s 11th highest-paid athlete; Mayweather no. 1

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino congressman and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is the world’s 11th highest-paid athlete, according to the annual list by Forbes Magazine.

Pacquiao amassed a total of $41.8 million in income from winnings and endorsements from June 1, 2013 to June 1, 2014, according to the business magazine.

In a post on its website, Forbes said that Pacquiao still pocketed $41 million despite disappointing numbers from pay-per-view buys for his fight against Brandon Rios in Macau and Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, who is set to enter the ring again in November with an opponent still unknown, recently signed on to become the head coach for Kia Motors in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Meanwhile, pound-for-pound champion and Pacquiao’s rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. topped the list after registering $105 million in revenues for a whole year, boosted by his record-setting fight against Canelo Alvarez in September 2013.

“Mayweather is the first athlete besides Tiger Woods to earn $100 million in Forbes’ annual tally of the highest-paid athletes,” said Forbes.
