Ateneo, Xavier in title duel
MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo routed Chiang Kai Shek, 61-32, and Xavier whipped La Salle Green Hills Paya, 51-25, recently to arrange a title showdown in the 13-under division of the Got Skills Basketball Showdown Season Two at Xavier Gym.
The Eaglets, who waylaid St. Jude, 66-29, in the quarterfinals, drew strength from John Fetalvero’s nine-point and 12-rebound effort while the Xavier dribblers, who slammed ISB Lucena, 55-28, in the same round, were led by Miguel Roy Luis Tan’s 10-point performance.
Michael John Flores fired 24 points as AMA turned back Xavier, 80-77, to set up a title duel with St. Jude, which turned back Ateneo Prada, 58-52, in the 17-under category.
Renzel Yongco paced AMA with 25 points.
In 11-under play, Ryley Tuason shot 19 points as Xavier bested Ateneo A, 43-31, and forged a title clash with LSGH, which downed Marist, 66-48.
