Capadocia rules Makati tennis tilt

MANILA, Philippines—Top seed Marian Jade Capadocia imposed her vast championship experience to edge age-group stalwart Monica Therese Cruz, 6-3, 6-1, Thursday to rule the Makati Sports Club tennis championships for a third straight time.

The 18-year-old Capadocia, a three-time women’s singles champion in PCA Open, used her power, quickness and court smarts to repulse the hard-fighting 14-year-old Cruz.

Cruz managed to put up a decent fight against the heavy favorite Capadocia, who unleashed her power serves and capitalized on weak returns of her younger opponent.

Cruz is being groomed as Capadocia’s fierce rival in the national level.  Marc Anthony Reyes
