AFC: PH U-14 girls top group, face Myanmar next

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines’ sustained its blistering form in the AFC Under-14 Girls Regional Championship Thursday, coasting to a 5-0 romp of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Lindsay Whaley, the star in the stunning triumph over Vietnam, once again led the scoring parade as the girls of coach Let Dimzon rolled to their third straight victory.

The win completed a sweep of the group for the Philippines, which faces Myanmar in the semifinals on Saturday.

The goal raised Whaley’s total to three in the eight-team tournament where the Philippines finished fourth last year.

Maree Bacatan and Joyce Semacio also scored for the Filipinas who benefited from a Cambodia own goal.

The Philippines opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Singapore before pulling off the upset of the tournament by stunning Vietnam, 1-0, Wednesday.  Cedelf P. Tupas
