MANILA, Philippines — Meralco salvaged a win to at least end another disappointing campaign on a high note following a 123-95 win over Globalport in the PBA Governors’ Cup Saturday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
Import Mario West collected 30 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists while Gary David topscored with 33 points on top of four assists for the Bolts, who finished second to the last in the standings with a 3-6 mark.
Meralco finished ninth in the Philippine Cup. The franchise made the quarterfinals in the Commissioner’s Cup but lost to eventual champion San Mig Coffee despite leading their best-of-three series 1-0.
The Bolts took a commanding lead, 42-21, in the second quarter before holding off a Batang Pier fightback in the third quarter where their lead was cut to five, 66-61, with under eight minutes left in the third quarter.
Meralco though, answered with a 17-4 run for an 83-65 advantage that put the game out of reach.
Dior Lowhorn paced Globalport, which wound up at the bottom of the standings with a woeful 1-8 mark and 7-26 overall throughout the season. Veteran forward Jay Washington added 21 points.
