MANILA, Philippines—Bianca Bustamante bested better equipped rivals to emerge the Asian Mini-ROK champion recently in the Macau kickoff of the 2014 Asian Karting Open Championship Series at Kartodromo de Coloane Circuit.
Only 8-years-old, Bustamante maximized the minimal resources she had. Using an old 2008 kart model and nearly worn-out set of tires during the practice sessions, she managed to stun erstwhile titlist Asian Mini-ROK champ Flynn Jackes and rivals from China, Singapore and Hong Kong for the crown.
Bustamante topped the qualifying time trials, clocking 1:01.115 over China’s Xu Zhen He (1:01.118) and Jackes (1:01.160), but only ended fourth and second twice in the qualifying heats.
Bustamante thanked her parents Raymund and Jhen for their continuous support.
