MANILA, Philippines — Arizona Reid hit the game-winning basket as Rain or Shine escaped San Mig Coffee, 95-94, to set the quarterfinals seedings in the 2014 PBA Governors’ Cup Monday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Reid knocked down a well-contested baseline jumper with 1.1 seconds left to cap a 39-point night.

“This game didn’t feel like it was a no-bearing game for the two teams. We just wanted to advance to the next round on a winning team that’s why we tried hard to win this game,” ROS head coach Yeng Guiao told reporters.

“Two weeks ago we were just trying to survive, we were just trying to avoid elimination and I think we’re in second place right now. We never thought that we can be in second place the way we were playing when we started the conference,” added Guiao, whose team extended its winning run to five games after a 1-3 start.

Rain or Shine locked up the second seed and will face a dangerous Air21 side with the Elasto Painters owning a twice-to-beat advantage.

San Mig Coffee played its key players sparingly having already assured a spot in the Top Four coming into the game with Marc Pingris scoring 15 points in just 23 minutes. PJ Simon, James Yap, Mark Barroca and Joe Devance all played under 20 minutes.

The Mixers settled for the fourth spot and will clash with the San Miguel Beermen Tuesday at the start of the playoffs.
