Patafa: Go steps aside for Juico

At the helm of Philippine athletics for two decades, Go Teng Kok is ready to step down when the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association holds its election on July 15.

Go said he would like to see the smooth transition of power to Patafa chair Philip Ella Juico when the association picks its new leader.

Juico, a former chair of the Philippine Sports Commission, has been attending most of the affairs of the Patafa since Go fell ill and was hospitalized a few months back.

“I’m already thinking of retiring. He (Juico) is  definitely  fit for the job,” said Go, one of the most colorful sports official since he took over as Patafa head in the ’90s.

Go had a falling out with key officials of the Philippine Olympic Committee and was subsequently declared persona non-grata by the Olympic body in 2011.

Still, Go guided his tracksters in winning six gold medals to become the most bemedaled NSA in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar (Burma).

Go said they will hold the elections after fixing the association’s papers with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
