MANILA, Philippines–“Heroes” rose to the tune of their leader for the 90th time.
Inside a loud, and shriek-filled, Mall of Asia Arena, the smoke cleared and the lights focused on Jose Rizal University president Dr. Vincent Fabella as he addressed the hoopsters of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Saturday afternoon.
“Use this season to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie,” Fabella said to the shouts and cheers of the Heavy Bomber fans.
“Epitomize excellence in sports.”
Basketball squads from all 10 member schools of the oldest collegiate sports league represented their respective institutions for the ushering of the 90th season of the NCAA under the theme “Today’s Heroes, Tomorrow’s Legends. We Make History.”
Drum corps from each school paved the way for Fabella with each dance troupe performing a routine based on their mascots with the JRU Heavy Bomber taking center stage.
“Build a legacy… Pave the way for the present and converge for the future.”
