Dragonboat up at Puerto Princesa

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—Watersports will be in the spotlight in this thriving Palawan capital when the first Puerto Princesa Dragonboat and Canoe Kayak competition kicks off today, Sunday, at Baywalk.

A total of 14 teams, 10 from Metro Manila, one each from Boracay and Iloilo and two local squads are seeing action in the one-day event to be hosted by the city government headed by Mayor Lucilo Bayron and organized by the Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation.

Events to be contested according to PCKF president Jonne Go are single kayak, touring doubles, triyak and canoe single.

Also on tap in the event dangling cash prizes are dragonboat’s 20-member men’s and mixed crew and 10-member women’s crew.
