MANILA, Philippines — Generika-Army humbled a Petron side that relied too much on rookie sensation Dindin Santiago, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19, Wednesday and notched its fourth consecutive victory in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference women’s volleyball at Cuneta Astrodome.
The Lady Troopers relentlessly fired away at the Blaze Spikers, who absorbed their first defeat after rocking the league by winning their first three matches. Beach volleyball standout Jovelyn Gonzaga led Generika-Army with 18 points.
Gonzaga, whose stunning model looks belied her power and range, was reportedly under the weather which she posted on Instagram and Twitter hours before the match.
“I don’t have to tell my coach I’m not feeling well, I’m a pro and once I got onto the court, I will have to give my full commitment,” said Gonzaga in Filipino.
In the second game, PLDT registered its sixth win in a row with a 25-18,25-22,25-20 beating of Cignal in men’s action. Systema tied Cignal at second place with a 3-2 record following a 25-20,25-11,25-20 triumph over winless Via Mare in the nightcap.
Generika-Army also drew firepower from Rachel Daquis, who added 14 markers.
