LONDON— Seven-time champion Roger Federer saved one set point and won the first set 7-6 (7) over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon singles final Sunday.
Federer led 3-0 in the tiebreaker but later had three unforced backhand errors to let Djokovic back into the decider. An ace and service winner later helped create set point, when Djokovic hit a backhand into the net.
The high-quality first set featured plenty of serve and volleying from Federer and a series of slice shots by both players during one lengthy rally in the ninth game.
Djokovic started serving strongly, losing only two points in his first four service games, and one of those came on a double-fault.
