MANILA, Philippines – It took Paul Lee just his first game to prove his worth.
Lee led the way as Gilas Pilipinas beat Chinese Taipei, 78-64, to get its Fiba Asia Cup going Saturday in Wuhan, China.
The Rain or Shine guard Lee quickly put his PBA Governors’ Cup heartbreak behind with a stellar debut for Gilas finishing with 18 points.
Gary David added 16 points for the Nationals, who will take on Singapore next on Monday.
The Fiba Asia Cup is part of Gilas’ preparations for the Fiba World Cup in Spain this August and the Asian Games a month later.
The 6-foot Lee, a late addition to the national team pool, is vying for a spot in the World Cup lineup.
