Fiba Asia Cup: Gilas edges India, faces Iran in semis
MANILA, Philippines — Paul Lee led the Philippines in scoring anew as Gilas avoided a late-game collapse to hold off India, 70-66, in the knockout stage of the Fiba Asia Cup at the Wuhan Gymnasium in Wuhan, China.
Lee, who is playing in his first ever international competition, continues to make a strong case for a spot in the Fiba World Cup with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Article continues after this advertisementIt was the fourth straight time in as many games where Lee topscored for the Nationals, who remained unscathed at 4-0.
But Gilas Pilipinas’ perfect record will certainly be put to the test against Iran, which beat PH in the gold medal match in last year’s Fiba Asia Championship, in the semifinals on Friday.
The Iranians beat Jordan, 75-60, to make the semis.
