MANILA, Philippines — Finalists PLDT-Air Force and Cignal HD go through the motion of completing their assignments in the men’s division even as Petron and Cagayan Valley clash for women’s final placing Wednesday in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at Cuneta Astrodome.
Unbeaten in seven games, PLDT-Air Force is gunning for a sweep of the double-round eliminations when it battles Systema at 6 p.m.
In solo second place with 5-2 card, Cignal HD tackles Instituto Estetico Manila at 4 p.m., needing a win to boost its stock for the do-or-die championship match against PLDT-Air Force on Saturday.
IEM and Systema, toting identical 3-4 records, will be playing for placing in the men’s division. Via Mare, with a 0-8 card, already bowed out of tournament.
Though only battling for fifth place in women’s play, Petron and Cagayan are expected to give it their all in the 2 p.m. curtain-raiser.
The Blaze Spikers will be bannered by top rookie Dindin Santiago, who powered the squad to a 3-0 slate only to encounter rough patches down the stretch.
The Lady Rising Suns are reeling from a quarterfinal defeat to PLDT Home TVolution and will be raring to finish the conference on a winning note.
The women’s division championship will also be played on Saturday with armed services teams Generika-Army and RC Cola-Air Force slugging it out for the title.
Generika-Army toppled AirAsia, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16, while RC Cola-Air Force scored a 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 15-12 triumph over PLDT Home TVolution on Sunday to seal their final duel.
