MANILA, Philippines—Head coach Juno Sauler hopes De La Salle University will get its starting point guard Thomas Torres back at least late in the elimination round.

Torres hurt his right ankle in the third quarter of the Green Archers’ 86-97 loss at the hands of fierce rival Ateneo Blue Eagles last Sunday.

“Six weeks,” said Sauler when asked of the time table for Torres’ return. “[He] fractured [his] foot. If the healing speeds up maybe earlier.”

“Sana kahit (Hopefully at least) last few games of the eliminations in the second round,” an optimistic Sauler added after La Salle picked up its first win of Season 77 with a 57-55 squeaker over erstwhile unbeaten National University Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“With Thomas out, I have to find someone to step up.”

Kib Montalbo started in place of Torres and though he only scored two points on one-of-five shooting in 22 minutes of action, Sauler said he was satisfied with what the second-year playmaker has shown in a rare starting role. “Kib was okay today.”
