MANILA, Philippines— Mapua leaned on a near double-double effort by Jessie Saitanan to pull the rug from under San Sebastian, 89-81, in a day of upsets in the NCAA Season 90 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Saitanan fired 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds to power the Cardinals to their first win in after a 0-6 start.
Earlier, College of St. Benilde stunned reigning titlist San Beda, 83-76, pinning the Red Lions’ first loss in seven outings.
The Stags fell into a three-way logjam with the Jose Rizal Heavy Bombers and the Blazers in fifth place with similar 3-3 slates.
CJ Perez and John Ortuoste scored 22 and 16 points, respectively.
