MANILA, Philippines—Philippine Air Force took advantage of a depleted Philippine Army side to win, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22, in the quarterfinals of the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Open Conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Joy Cases scored 20 points to lead the Raiders, who improved to 4-3 while spoiling the Lady Troopers chance to gain solo first place.

“They (Army) aren’t playing that well. They don’t have their usual bounce so I told my players to capitalize on that,” said Air Force coach Clarence Esteban in Filipino.

“And of course, they didn’t have Daquis so that helped us a lot. They lacked someone at the defensive end.”

Cases, Caballejo and Maika Ortiz pounced on that hole left by Daquis as Army struggled to stop Air Force’s attacks.

Caballejo fired 18 points while Ortiz added 14, including the game-clinching hit.

Rhea Dimaculangan, the former University of Santo Tomas star setter, made it easy for the Raiders at the offensive end with 55 excellent sets.

“Rhea was able to play her game because we did good on our defense and receive.”
