MANILA, Philippines—With their quivers unloaded and their arrows launched, the De La Salle University Green Archers buried the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 74-53, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Wednesday afternoon.
DLSU momentarily were in the backseat at the start of the contest trailing by one, 4-3, until it launched a green assault with a 17-0 blitzkrieg, taking the lead, 20-4.
Its assault continued in the second with a 12-0 dash that blocked out UP’s hopes of digging a 32-point trench, 47-15, for the Maroons.
Despite the victory, Green Archers head coach Juno Sauler was dissatisfied with his team’s efforts especially in the latter stages when DLSU down-shifted its gear.
“There was not much energy in the second half compared to the first,” Sauler said.
He, however, said that his team is playing better after a 0-2 start in the basketball tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
“We are playing better now, not about the streak, but we are playing better, said Sauler whose team has a 4-2 slate good for a third seed in the standings.
Archer swingman Jeron Teng led DLSU with 25 points and 11 boards.
Almond Vostros added 15 off his quiver and dished out five assists.
Maroons guard Kyles Lao paced UP with 13 points which dropped to a 0-6 record, currently the worst in the tournament.
