Manila softbelles absorb second consecutive loss

/ 03:55 AM August 08, 2014

Team Manila absorbed its second straight defeat, dropping a 4-6 decision to defending champion Laurel-Delaware Wednesday in the 2014 Big League Softball World Series in Sussex County, Delaware.

The Filipinos wasted an early 4-0 lead as they dropped to a 1-win, 2-loss card, leaving them with a slim chance of reaching the semifinals of the prestigious tournament they won two years ago.

Opening the tournament with a 10-9 victory over Puerto Rico, the Manila softbelles failed to sustain their sharp form, losing to  Milford, Delaware, 3-10, last Tuesday.

Manila’s fate is no longer in its hands even if it beats US Southeast bet Cape Coral, Florida on Thursday.

The Filipinos are also hoping Puerto Rico loses to Laurel, Delaware to gain a tie for third spot. Christy Joy Roa’s grandslam home run in the first inning proved to be the Filipinos’ last stand.  Cedelf P. Tupas
