ICTSI-JGFP Interschool under way

LYCEUM is out to break the rivalry of Ateneo and La Salle in college play with prized recruit Rupert Zaragosa in the 2014 ICTSI-JGFP Interschool golf championships starting this wekend at South Links Golf Club course in Las Piñas.

Zaragosa, the most dominant local amateur player last year, suits up for his new school which looks formidable with a revamped lineup that now includes seasoned juniors Jelbert Gamolo, Luigi Guerrero and Jansen Morilla.

Those in the developmental tournament conducted by The Junior Golfers League from grades 1 to 12 will first see action after the opening ceremonies today.   The Girls 1, 2 and 3 entries show their wares tomorrow.

About 500 junior golfers nationwide are set to be involved in the series organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines with the major support of the International Container Terminal Services Inc. and also sponsored by Martin Lorenzo, Philippine Golf Foundation, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf.

The college players will be in the Interschool series to be held in nine golf courses over the next four months.  It will serve as the qualifying for the PGF National Collegiate Championship slated later this year.

Stars of the recent impressive Philippine campaign in the US like Miya Legaspi, Bernice Ilas, Annyka Cayabyab, Sofia Chabon and Sean Granada are also spearheading their respective schools.

Aside from the boys’ college plum and three girls divisions, the boys battle will feature the junior, Midgets 1 and Midgets 2 competitions.
