Ex-NBA and WNBA players to visit Leyte and Tacloban

MANILA, Philippines — Former National Basketball Association (NBA) player, Derrick Alston, and former Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) player, Allison Feaster, will visit Leyte and Tacloban on August 14, 2014, for outreach activities, the U.S. Embassy announced Wednesday.

The stars will participate in book donations to the Philippine Science High School in Palo and the San Fernando Central School. They will also engage in a beach tree planting, story-telling with elementary students, and school building reconstruction under the auspices of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a statement from the embassy said.

Alston and Feaster are in the Philippines as “Sports Envoys” of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports United program, which promotes sports diplomacy, and the values of leadership, respect for diversity, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
