Far Eastern University didn’t get to play the way it wanted  yet carved out a 71-62 triumph over winless Adamson yesterday for a share of second place in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Mike Tolomia fired 21 points for the Tamaraws, who surprisingly allowed the Falcons to pull within striking distance late in the second half.

“With the way we played today, I think I have a very big problem as a coach,” said FEU coach Nash Racela. “I don’t think my players understand what I was trying to teach them.”

The Tamaraws finished with a 5-2 record  like defending champion La Salle and National University.

Earlier, University of the East ended a four-game losing spell with a 72-62 victory over a University of Santo Tomas side that missed starting center Karim Abdul.

Charles Mammie, Chris Javier and Moustapha Arafat fueled a strong start before the Warriors—who blew double-digit leads in their consecutive losses—held on this time even as the Tigers dropped 31 points in the final quarter.

Abdul, who is averaging 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Tigers, missed the game due to a viral infection and dehydration.
