Mimosa upsets Sta. Elena, nears Fed League playoffs

MIMOSA moved on the verge of barging into the playoff rounds following a 3-2 upset of Sta. Elena in an away match in the Men’s Federation Golf League matches recently.

The win was Mimosa’s third in seven games, pushing the Clark Freeport-based golfers to third place at 9 points in Group 1 going into their return match at home with Sta. Elena.

That left Highlands in a must-win situation if it were to stay alive in the quarterfinals race.

Highlands lost to defending champion Valley, 4.5-0.5, to drop to fourth at 7 points. Valley, leading its group with 15 points, has two games left to secure an outright semifinals berth.

Sta. Elena has also secured its own quarterfinals slot with 13 points in 7 games on 4 wins, 2 losses and a draw.

Wack Wack has all but secured the first automatic semifinal seat with a league-leading 19 points.

Forest Hills and Alabang are already assured of the two quarterfinals slots in Division 2 with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Alabang beat Forest Hills, 4-1, at home in a win that slammed the door on Orchard.

That put to naught Orchard’s 4-1 conquest of Eagle Ridge which can only improve the tournament record of the club from Dasmariñas, Cavite, to 2 wins, 4 losses and a draw for 7 points.
