Juan Gomez de Liaño buried nine triples to help power University of the Philippines to a 96-82 win over multititled Hope Christian High School in the first Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Cup 2014 held over the weekend at Enderun Colleges gym in Taguig City.
The Junior Maroons started slow until Gomez de Liaño found his rhythm and they pulled away, outscoring the Hope cagers, 24-15, in the second quarter to take the lead for good, 40-37.
Gomez de Liaño finished with 34 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the three-point zone and 3-of-3 from the two-point area as UP bounced back from a 66-76 defeat to Far Eastern U.
Hope Christian absorbed its first loss in two starts.
The Baby Tamaraws, on the other hand, banked on a torrid start to beat Adamson, 87-74, big thanks to Marvin Lee, Brandrey Bienes and Wendell Comboy.
Lee scattered five triples to lead all scorers with 25 points as FEU kept its share of the lead with Ateneo at 2-0.
Chiang Kai Shek crushed Diliman Preparatory School, 118-69.
