Filipinos sweep Petron Asian Karting plums

Filipino karters swept the Philippine leg of the 2014 Petron Blaze Asian Karting Open Championships behind Bobby Domingo of Formula-E Racing and Eagle Cement’s Jacob Ang and Eduardo Coseteng Jr. yesterday at Carmona Racetrack in Barangay Bangkal, Carmona, Cavite.

Domingo ruled the Formula 125 Open Seniors class while Ang bagged the Formula 125 Open Juniors plum of the races sanctioned by the Internationale de Karting-Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile and Automobile Association Philippines.

Coseteng, on the other hand, clinched the Asian Mini-ROK crown over Bianca Bustamante of Formula-E Racing and Royce Yu Chuen-yiu of Hong Kong.

Domingo topped both the Pre-Final and the 28-lap Final race, where he timed 20 minutes and 34.773 seconds, 2.440 seconds clear of Macau’s Joao de Jesus Afonso of CKS Racing Team.

Vrei-AR Suba took third place followed by Hong Yang Yeo of Singapore’s Kart Master Drakar Racing Team and Wayne Darvin of Team Total Racing.

Ang turned in the fastest lap of 44.127 seconds as he dictated the tempo throughout to top the Formula 125 Open Juniors by 9.917 seconds over Leong Hon-chio of Macau’s Solar Racing Team.

Mikey Jordan of Formula-E Racing took third while Larco Cortez and Seaoil-DC karter Gabriel Tayao Cabrera wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.

Coseteng was in control until Bustamante, the Macau winner who finished third in the Pre-Final race, wrested the front.

But Coseteng quickly battled back to wrap up the 16-lap race in 13:16.774 minutes, 0.218 of a second ahead of Bustamante.

Vrei-Ar Suba copped the title in the first ever ROK Shifter race, winning by 2.829 seconds over Sean Smith. Domingo checked in third followed by Wayne Darvin and Michael Jordan.

Rhett Holganza won the Formula SQ 125 Novice over Paul Lawrence Tan, with Jericke Holganza and Chris Bendel finishing third and fourth, respectively.

Zachary David ruled the Formula Cadet class over Joaquin Garrido and Troy Cortez while Wils Casequin of Kart Master Drakar Racing Team prevailed in the Yamaha Cup Novice division over Jose Wilfredo John Dizon and Sean Draeco McLelland.
