MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles, led by King Eagle Kiefer Ravena, humbled the UST Growling Tigers, 69-58, in their second meeting at the seniors basketball tournament of UAAP 77 Saturday.
Ravena showed why he is the go-to-guy as he drilled 10 crucial fourth quarter points that allowed the Eagles to pull away, 61-49, with six minutes to go in the game held at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.Chris Newsome ably supported Ravena with 14 points and nine rebounds while Nico Elorde and rookie John Apacible each had nine points.
With the win, Ateneo gained solo second at 8-3 behind the FEU Tamaraws’ 9-2 record.
Karim Abdul led the Tigers with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Louie Vigil and Aljon Mariano had 14 and 12 points respectively. The loss dimmed UST’s Final Four chances as the Tigers slipped to 5 wins against six defeats.
