Fiba World Cup: Gilas Pilipinas in rip-roaring start vs Argentina, 25-22

SEVILLE, Spain—For a change, Gilas Pilipinas got off to a rip-roaring start and played with complete command in the first quarter of its game against world powerhouse Argentina.

The Filipinos hit their outside shots and were relentless underneath as they enjoyed leads of as many as 10, 12-2, before settling for a 25-22 count going into the second period.

Andray Blatche hit his first two shots and fueled the Gilas juggernaut before resting after just 1:32 on the floor because of his second foul.

Gabe Norwood completed a fast-break play with a slam in the face of NBA veteran Luis Scola, which ushered the Filipinos to a 19-12 lead.
