MANILA, Philippines –Malacañang on Wednesday said that for winning gold in the Youth Olympics, young archer Luis Gabriel Moreno deserves the nation’s praise.

“Kaisa kami ng sambayanan sa pagpuri sa kahusayan ni Gab Moreno na mag-uuwi ng gintong medalyang sagisag ng tagumpay sa Nanjing archery competition,” Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said in a text message to media.

(We are one with the nation in praising the skill and performance of Gab Moreno who brought home a gold medal after his triumph in the Nanjing archery competition.)

Moreno, more than a week ago, bagged a gold medal after pairing up with China’s Li Jiaman during the finals of the mixed international team archery event in Nanjing, China.

Coloma, however, did not say if Moreno is due for a courtesy call with President Benigno Aquino III.

Since returning to the Philippines, the 16-year-old athlete has been making the rounds in television shows.

In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Moreno said he didn’t expect that he would win a medal. He said he hopes to become “a symbol of inspiration to all Filipino athletes.”
