CEU, St. Clare keep top spot

ST. CLARE survived a big jolt before slipping past Fatima, 60-55, while Centro Escolar cruised to a 93-59 triumph over Rizal Technological yesterday to secure semifinal slots in the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu) men’s basketball at Makati Coliseum.

With just two games left, the CEU Scorpions and the Saints have assured themselves of the top two  spots in the next round. The defending champion Scorpions, who notched their 10th straight win, can even go straight to the finals if they complete a sweep of the eliminations.

“We are not yet thinking about it,” said CEU coach Egay Macaraya. “Every team has a chance but our advantage is experience.”

Samboy de Leon led CEU with 17 points.

Earlier, the Saints notched their 9th straight victory to improve to 9-1.
