NCAA: Mapua keeps winning, upsets Perpetual Help

MANILA, Philippines — Resurgent Mapua continued its winning ways following a 91-81 shocker over Perpetual Help in the NCAA Season 90 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Leo Gabo led the Cardinals with 23 points that went with six assists while CJ Isit notched a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists on top of three steals.

“I think they took us for granted,” said Mapua head coach Atoy Co.

And the Altas paid the price. The loss kept Perpetual Help outside of the playoff picture in fifth place — a game behind fourth-running College of St. Benilde.

FEATURED STORIES

MVP candidate Earl Thompson topscored for Perpetual Help anew with 20 points. He also recorded nine rebounds and five assists but had six turnovers.

The Altas shot themselves on the foot with 27 turnovers, 18 coming from their Big Three of Juneric Baloria, Harold Arboleda and Thompson.

The Cardinals racked up their third straight win and moved into eighth place with a 4-10 mark.

Mapua got 30 points off Perpetual Help’s turnovers.
