MADRID—Serbia held off France, 90-85, in the semifinals of the 2014 Fiba Basketball World Cup in Madrid on Friday to set up a title fight against undefeated reigning champion the United States.
Serbia won five world titles as part of Yugoslavia as recently as 2002 and has reached its first final since independence. It next plays the US, which beat Lithuania, 96-68, in Barcelona on Thursday.
Milos Teodosic led the way with 24 points while Bogdan Bogdanovic had 13 and three other Serbs had 10 points.
Gilas back in practice
Meanwhile, Gilas Pilipinas got back to work last night and will use the things that it learned in the World Cup as its main weapons when it guns for the country’s first cage gold in 52 years in the Incheon Asiad in two weeks.
“Our locals have experienced playing in the World Cup, hopefully, that translates to a higher level of performance in the Asiad,” team manager Aboy Castro said. AFP, Musong R. Castillo
