Papa bags 3 golds in Montreal

Two-time Olympian Ryan Papa bagged three gold medals in the recent 15th Fina World Masters Swimming Championships in Montreal, Canada.

The 38-year-old Papa, who competed in the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Los Angeles Olympics, ruled the 200-meter backstroke in two minutes and 15.86 seconds, 100m backstroke (1:01.22) and 50m backstroke (28.14) of the 35-39 age group.

The country’s erstwhile fastest tanker, who now lives in the United States, competed for the Michigan Masters squad in the international meet.

American Nick Fusedale finished second to Papa in the 100m back in 1:02.99 while Frenchman Andre Weimert came in second in the 50m back in 28:26. Senen Bravo, Contributor
