WUHAN, China — Third-seeded Petra Kvitova swept aside Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the Wuhan Open on Thursday.

Also, Eugenie Bouchard overcame Alize Cornet’s fight-back in the second set to win 6-3, 7-5.

Kvitova held serve throughout the match broke Garcia once in each set to complete the win in 1 hour, 21 minutes.

Kvitova would qualify for WTA finals in Singapore if she wins the title at Wuhan.

The sixth-seeded Bouchard was leading 5-2 in the second set before letting Cornet back in the match, but the Canadian recovered to close out the victory.
