MANILA, Philippines – “He just quit.”
Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes was not the nicest mentor after the Philippines’ 77-68 loss against Qatar in the Asian Games 2014 at Incheon, South Korea.
“Our big guy, Douthit, just quit,” Reyes said after the game. “I don’t know what happened. Towards the end of the first half, he was at the dugout watching a music video. ”
Douthit, Reyes said, was the last person to leave the dugout before the continuation in the second half.
Qatari big man Erfan Ali Saeed completely had Douthit’s number, picking him apart in the fourth quarter with six of his nation’s nine points in the middle of the period to go up 68-59.
“He had a very bad body language and Qatar pounced on him,” Reyes said.
Another big man from the men in maroon had a field day preying on Douthit.
Mohd Mohamed drained five three-pointers in the third period that led to the Philippines’ fall.
“I’m gonna ask Marcus, if he doesn’t wanna play, we’ll go all-Filipino. If he wants to go home, he can go home,” Reyes said.
