MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Sunday is not giving up on Gilas Pilipinas after it lost to South Korea at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon.

“Patuloy tayong umaasa at nananalangin para sa tagumpay ng koponang Gilas Pilipinas sa kanilang laro laban sa Kazakhstan mamayang hapon (Sunday afternoon) sa Asian Games,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said over state-run radio.

(We continue to hope and pray for the success of Gilas Pilipinas during their game against Kazakhstan later in the afternoon at the Asian Games.

He explained that the team could still enter the next round, according to analysts, if they would win against Kazakhstan by more than 11 points and hope that South Korea will win against Qatar so there would be a triple tie with the Philippines winning through the “quotient system.”

“Nakikita naman po natin na puspusan ang pagsisikap ng ating mga manlalarong Pilipino na maipagtagumpay ang ating bansa kaya’t patuloy po ang ating pagtataguyod sa kanila at umaasa tayo na magtatagumpay sila,” he said.

(We see the perseverance of our Filipino players for the country to win so we continue to support them and hope for their success.)
