MANILA, Philippines—The long wait is over.
The Philippines finally won on Wednesday its first gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea courtesy of BMX rider Daniel Caluag.
Caluag consistently topped the three heats of the race, finishing the final run with a record of 35.489 seconds. He was followed by Japan’s Masahiro Sampei, who won silver, and Korea’s Young Kim, who notched the bronze medal.
Caluag’s brother, Christopher John Caluag finished in sixth place with a record of 37.005 seconds.
The Philippines now has one gold, two silvers, and three bronzes.
