PHILIPPINE Volleyball Federation chair Pedro Mendoza Jr., passed away last Thursday due to heart failure, the PVF announced yesterday. He was 71.

PVF secretary general Otie Camangian said Philippine volleyball suffered a big blow with the death of Mendoza, who had a long stint as PVF officer starting as board member in 1995 representing Baguio City.

Mendoza was vice president from 2003 to 2006, before serving as PVF president from 2007-2010. He was named chair in 2011.

A list supposedly selected for the PH teams came out via Twitter.  But Camangian immediately dispelled the list as hoax and said the lineup will be deliberated upon by the national coaches, PVF and the sponsoring PLDT.
