Power Spikers in big debut

FLAUNTING its attacking depth, PLDT Home Telpad launched its Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Third Conference in style, registering a swift and merciless 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 victory over Meralco Thursday night at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Turbo Boosters leaned on the duo of Sue Roces and Gretchel Soltones as they hammered out the win in just 73 minutes.

Rubie de Leon also sparkled for the Turbo Boosters, finishing with 41 excellent sets, while Lizlee Ann Pantone anchored PLDT’s terrific court coverage with 19 digs.

It was the second straight loss for the Power Spikers who played without their two reinforcements in Thai Wanida Kotruang and Japanese ace setter Misao Tanyama.

The league has required teams to gain International Transfer Certificates from the FIVB for their foreign reinforcements.

Cagayan Valley also has not secured the certificates for its two Thai players, who were forced to sit out the match against Air Force.

The Turbo Boosters made the most out of their advantage in skill and experience with Roces and Soltones, coming away with 14 points apiece to lead the charge.

Stephanie Mercado, a former La Salle ace, paced the Power Spikers with nine points. Maica Morada had eight while Aby Marano and Concon de Guzman had seven apiece.
