Philippine team hopefuls in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Singapore will be confined for eight months in a training facility far from the usual daily distractions.
The Philippine Olympic Committee will closely monitor 150 to 200 Filipino athletes who are capable of winning medals so that sports officials can supervise their progress and activities in a controlled venue.
“These athletes will stay in living quarters near their training venues,” said Cojuangco. “We will bring in nutritionists to feed them properly and hire coaches and trainers to make sure they will get the ingredients necessary to win the gold,” he added.
Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia said the dormitories at the Philsports complex in Pasig City can accommodate 150 athletes while the PSC compound in Baguio City can house the athletes in combat sports.
The rest of the candidates will be billeted at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
The 28th SEA Games will be held from June 5 to 16 with 402 golds at stake in 36 sports.
