SuperLiga to parade imports, new teams

Three new teams will try to prove their worth against the veteran squads in the imports-laden 2014 Philippine SuperLiga Grand Prix presented by Asics which fires off Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Mane and Tail Lady Stallions and the Foton Tornadoes will slug it out with Petron, Cignal, RC Cola and Generika in the women’s division of the country’s pioneering club league sanctioned by the Asian Volleyball Confederation and the Philippine Volleyball Federation.

The PSL is also recognized by the International Volleyball Federation.

The Cavite Patriots, meanwhile, will join PLDT-Air Force, Cignal and Maybank in the men’s division.

FEATURED STORIES

Cignal and RC Cola will clash in the first game at 2 p.m. while Generika and Petron collide at 4 p.m.

The 1 p.m. opening ceremonies will be presided by Superliga founder and president Ramon “Tats” Suzara.

Superliga fans will also be able to watch Alaina Bergsma, Ms. Oregon 2012 and a former Ms. USA finalist who also captained for the University of Oregon volleyball team and was an All-American NCAA athlete.

Bergsma  will play with Brazilian Erica Adachi for Petron Blaze.

Americans will reinforce RC Cola (Bonita Wise and Emily Brown), Cignal (Lindsay Stalzer and Sarah Ammerman) and Mane and Tail (Kaylee Manns and Kristy Jaeckel).
