RC COLA-AIR FORCE survived a late-charging Generika squad, 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 27-25, Saturday night to register its second win in the women’s division of the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix presented by Asics at Sto. Domingo Coliseum in Ilocos Sur.
Import Emily Brown produced 19 kills and two blocks and local star Joy Cases added 17 kills and two blocks to power the Raiders to second with a 2-1 record.
The Raiders, who dropped their opening game to Cignal HD, appeared headed for an easy win with a trouble-free first two sets anchored on Brown’s well-timed shots and Cases’ relentless attack.
But they relaxed in the third set and allowed the Life Savers to claw back through the heroics of Russian tower of power Natalia Korobkova.
Korobkova finished with 31 points for Generika which slumped to 0-2.
The Life Savers led 16-13 in the fourth set and threatened to extend the game to a decider. But the Russian eventually lost steam and RC Cola pulled through.
Petron earlier tied Cignal HD for the lead at 2-0 after beating Mane ’N Tail, 21-25, 25-16, 25-21, 29-27. Marc Anthony Reyes
