MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Youth team head coach Jamike Jarin on Wednesday has been appointed to man the sidelines for the San Beda Red Lions.
Jarin will take over the coaching reins after Boyet Fernandez vacated the post to lead the coaching staff of the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA.
“He was officially welcomed by school officials today (Wednesday),” San Beda team manager Jude Roque, who praised Jarin for his passion in coaching, told INQUIRER.net.
Roque also said Jarin will officially take over as head coach after the Philippine Collegiate Champions League. Adonis Tierra, who serves as lead assistant to Fernandez, will momentarily handle the head coaching duties during the tournament.
“He will take over after the PCCL, which will be handled by coach Adonis Tierra. Coaching staff will be discussed next week.”
Jarin made a name for himself as a high school coach steering the Ateneo Blue Eaglets to multiple UAAP championships during his time.
He recently coached the PH Youth team in the Fiba Asia U-18 in Doha and the Fiba World U-17 Championships in Dubai.
Fernandez guided San Beda to two NCAA championships in as many years as coach including the school’s fifth straight crown in the 90th Season last week.
Jarin also serves as assistant coach to Norman Black for the Meralco Bolts.
