MANILA, Philippines—It’s a Halloween treat for the defending champions as the Purefoods Star Hotshots blazed back with a comeback trick against the Globalport Batang Pier, 81-75, during their showdown at the PBA Philippine Cup Friday evening inside the most hallow of sporting grounds, the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Purefoods roared back with championship swagger, coming from an 18-point deficit at the start of the third to claim their first victory of the 2014-2015 PBA season.
Point Guard Mark Barroca laid it out in the clutch with a beautiful lay in to give Globalport its second loss in three outings.
With the Batang Pier controlling the course in the first half, the Hotshots then roared to a 16-5 uprising that trimmed the Globalport lead to two, 53-51, at the end of the third period.
Purefoods then made with an 8-2 run with Marc Pingris capping it off to put the champs at 60-61.
A 13-0 run from the champions in the final two minutes completed the comeback as they go to a 1-2 record.
